Want More Comments For Your Blog? Try This Free Tool.
If you want to get more comments on your blog, while at the same time providing an extra value for your visitors who do comment, then you may want to give this tool a try.
It’s called CommentLuv, and it’s available for a variety of blog platforms, including the one I use, Wordpress.
What does it do? Every time someone posts a comment on your blog, it looks up the URL of the web address they provide, and if it’s a blog, it then checks the feeds of that blog to look for their latest blog post. Finally, it provides a link to their last blog post from their own blog right under their comment on your blog.
Sound confusing? It’s really one of those things that’s better shown by example.
I’ve installed it for this blog, so feel free to leave a comment and see it in action.
Not only does it reward people who leave comments by promoting their own blog, it’s a nice value-added social tool that’s a win/win for everyone.
And if you register your blog at CommentLuv’s site, you get additional features that include tracking, rankings, and more.
Note that there’s a checkbox that allows visitors leaving a comment the option of using CommentLuv or not. So it’s not forced on anyone. Pretty slick!
So what do you think? Try it out and let me know.

Hi John – Thanks for sharing this… I’m going to install this now on my blog and measure the success – it will be interesting to see what it does for SEO as well.
Matthew Jones’s last blog post: Letting The Cat Out Of The Bag…
Hi John, this looks interesting… let’s see if people pick up on the value and leave good, thoughtful, and helpful comments (not spam). Great idea I hope it works. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this tool John! I am just going to give it a try now.
Harris’s last blog post: Register For Free FIT 365 Membership Today and become a Personal fat loss expert!
Happy to share! Marc, good point. The aim is to promote other people’s blogs, and if I see spam, I won’t approve the comment.
In the WP admin comments section, I can see what blog post is about to be promoted, so I can check it out before approving just to ensure the spam never goes live.
I’ve been pretty good about spam here in that Akismet and other spam-fighting tools I employ work really well.
But it’s a good caution if you don’t have these anti-spam tools in place on your own blog.
Thanks for the input!
What an interesting idea…I’ve seen similar comment apps that include the latest tweet the commenter has left, but this is the first time I’ve seen blog info included.
So to get my latest blog title to show up, I had to make sure the “website” link I included was directly to my blog (which isn’t my front page).
I just may play around with this one – thanks John!

Thanks for this tool, I’m going to try it.
I like the look of Luv, John. The world needs more of it…
Wondering if the link to the commenter’s latest blog gets updated once a new post is made. Will definitely be looking closely at this.

Anita Ashland’s last blog post: We’re all in the M&M business
John,
Thanks for the reminder. I had forgotten about this plugin. I really think that the big G values natural linking the most and this promotes to that effect. It is very useful from an SEO standpoint that it uses your supplied anchor text, instead of just an URL.
We get so involved in the details of our sites that some previous knowledge falls through the cracks. The blog that I link to hopes to address an age old problem of choosing a gift for our “problem” recipients. Not yet sure how to monetize this one but I wish I would get with finishing the darned setup. So often life detours us.
Well, keep sending us the useful info that you do, you have more lurkers than what you think. Sometimes, we are even motivated to actually comment………

Hi John,
I love CommentLuv.:-) Great plugin. Thanks for sharing this. Do you know about the Zemanta plugin?

Hey John,
I’ve wondered for a long time about this pluggin
and how it works.
My one fear is registering for more benifits. I
just have this feeling that every “free” tool
is spying on my sites and gathering information.
Thanks

Hey John,
I think I saw that plugin among the options at wordpress, but there are so many add-ons that I just “passed over” it.
Thanks for the tip. I’m going to add it to my biz-blog this weekend after celebrating the holy days.
A Joyous Passover and Easter to all!
Keep in touch.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
@WidgetWoman, not sure. Just check back after your next blog post, and please let me know, because I’m curious, too.
@Vonalda, no, but I’ll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion!
@Blase, I wouldn’t worry. Your blog is public anyways and usually available in feeds and SEs(that is, if you want others to find you).
@Paul, at the bottom of the comment is a checkbox that says “Add a link to my last blog post (automatically retrieved from your URL)” or something like that. Visitors leaving comments can choose to check it or uncheck it.
Once they enter their URL and move away from the URL field, the plugin uses AJAX to retrieve the blog post title and changes the checkbox to that text automatically. But you still have the option to check or uncheck it.
For those who celebrate, have a safe and happy Passover and Easter!
Cheers,
John
Interesting gizmo
Thanks for the heads up.
Yeah I have had this plug-in installed a few weeks now and it works great!
Thanks John for explaining it a little further, i’ll be sure to sign up for the extra features available.
You’re right John. It’s definitely easier to SEE it than to try to explain it. It looks pretty interesting. Now to try it out for myself.
Cynthia’s last blog post: Maverick Money Makers – Scam or Real Deal
Love this plugin! I just put it on my site recently and it works great. Seems to encourage people to leave thoughtful posts rather than just one-liners.
Maureen’s last blog post: Weight Loss Hypnosis Help – Where To Get It
Haven’t checked out all the extra features yet on the Tweetmeme site yet, but I do know one of them is the ability to choose from your last 10 blog posts or so instead of automatically just posting a link to the last blog post.
But in doing so, they put a drop-down box that draws visitors to their site. I removed that, because I try to minimize link leakage as much as possible, except where the value to visitors exceed the value of removing the link(s).
Glad to see some of you are experimenting with this plugin. So far I’ve gotten fairly positive feedback on it.
John
Thanks John. I’m definitely going to try this out at my free dating sites blog. I’m new at blogging and online marketing etc. but I have a good feeling this may help me! Thanks again!
Thanks John for the clearest most succinct explanation of this tool I’ve seen. I’ve seen it on other blogs, but wasn’t comfortable installing it on my blog until I read your post.
Thanks again!

@Nickolas, @Ina, @Jim: Thanks for your comments.
As you can see, so far this seems to be working pretty well. I’ve gotten more than my fair share of comments on this thread (I don’t claim to come close to some of the top blogs out there, of course).
We’ll see if this trend continues with other articles I post, but many of the plugins and new strategies I’ve tried have definitely made a major traffic impact for my blog.
Ill be writing about some of those coming up, including which ones are working the best for me, and which ones–not so much.
Cheers!

Hi John,
Great stuff here on your website. I just signed up for CommentLuv. I understand that you’re moving it to a new server. I can hardly wait so that I can get to the good stuff.
I’m looking forward to the updates!

Bodybuilding Exercises´s last blog ..Retweet Bodybuilding Exercises on Twitter!
Hey John,
I’ve been using Commentluv over on my blog for a little while now and although it’s just a new blog and not much commenting going on, using Commentluv is a great way to add incentive. I’m also now seeking out other blogs such as this one where I can leave Commentluv enabled posts.
It’s surprising though how many people don’t use Commentluv,- I think there’s a bit of a misconception out there that most blogs are trackback enabled as stock standard but these days that’s becoming less and less frequent.
Cheers. Russ
