		<description>Joseph,

Great questions! The answers might be a little lengthy for a comment. In fact, you've inspired me to write a new post to address and expand on them. I'll post the link to the new entry here as soon as it's published.

		<description>John,

This is one thing that I have had so much trouble finding any real info on the internet. All the gurus talk about it. And I'm referring to OFFLINE tracking (online tracking is very easy because there's already software for that).

The tracking concept often goes hand in hand with split- or multiple- testing. Here are some questions I have:

1- what kind of numbers do you need to find out if the split-testing applies? 1,000 mailings? can you do 100 and get something accurate?

2- how does one track the mailings- whether a better response came from mailing piece "A" or piece "B"?

3- How does one determine a stepped-up campaign- i.e. do a first test mailing of 100 each of mailing piece A, B, and C. Then verify results with a larger mailing of the winning piece (e.g. 500 mailings), and then after that do your 10,000 or whatever. Is that the way it's done?

Thanks
