A Prescription in Marketing

I’m sure you’re going to see this plastered all over the net, and well, this blog is no exception.

In fact, I’m a big believer in testing new Web 2.0 tools and techniques, especially when I can be an early adopter if they work. And here’s a chance for you to do the same. Best of all, it won’t cost you a single red cent.

What am I talking about? What’s all the fuss about?

It’s a new blog tool that John Reese just released called BlogRush.

I just installed it on my blog here. In fact, you can see it to the right if you scroll down to the bottom.

In a nutshell, it’s a form of blog syndication, but not like RSS or any other flavors I’ve seen (although it does use RSS, plus some technology John and his team developed on their own). It’s actually a free service that’ll help bloggers get more traffic and readers for their blog.

Each time a page is shown with the tool added, the tool will display 5 related linkable blog posts. And the links open up in a new window, so it doesn’t whisk away the visitor from the original blog showing the tool.

They key in its use for building traffic, however, comes when bloggers refer other bloggers to get their own version of the tool. The more referrals, the more your posts will be shown all over the net. And the early adopters will (in theory) get the most leverage, because you might just refer one blogger who has a huge distribution. The referrals are actually a 10-tiered level, so if I refer someone who refers someone, and so on down the line up to 10 people deep, well, you get the idea.

I’ll report back here after I’ve done some testing with my actual results, but in the meantime, I highly recommend you conduct your own tests as well if you have a blog. It doesn’t cost anything, and the worst thing that happens is it costs you a few minutes of your time.

But if it turns out to be a traffic gold mine, well, you’ll be pretty happy that you got in early, wouldn’t you say?
